“A Fragile Goodbye” Special Limited-Edition Prints by Jacob Secrest

This painting had been on my mind for years, inspired by two favorite themes of mine a few years back: black veils (previously only created in charcoal) and my kiddos’ goldfish, Goldy. Here, those themes blend together in an unexpected way!

Sometimes, ideas linger and refuse to fade, like this one did. I finally got a reference image that captured what I envisioned, and I decided to start tinkering around. Originally, I planned for this to be just a study as I was trying a new style inspired by 17th Century Dutch masters. Bust as I kept refining—for example, completely changing the veil’s style—this piece transformed into a completed work, bringing my vision to life in a way I hadn’t expected, and in my opinion…a fairly strong finished piece.
